Organized in 1868, the members of the Palmersville Missionary Baptist Church met first in a small building which also served as a meeting place for the Masonic Lodge. The small building stood adjacent to the Minida Normal College. Foreseeing a growing need for a larger building, Mr. Smith Palmer donated a section of land in 1873. However, the two story wooden building that still stands east of town, was not constructed until 1921. During these early years, they only met once or twice a month on different days of the week, mostly Saturdays and Sundays. Muddy roads prevented traveling much of the time. Mode of transportation was by horse and buggies.
Only a short distance away from the original meeting site, the Palmersville Missionary Baptist Church once again shared it’s home in that two-story building. Alternated Sunday morning worship services were shared with the Palmersville Primitive Baptist Church. Services took place on the first-floor area, while the second flow was reserved for the Masonic Lodge.
After the end of World War II, a search began for the perfect location for the church. In 1950, land near the northern end of town was purchased from Mr. C.V. Pentecost. However, construction for the 30 x 62 ft brick building which would contain the main auditorium as well as two Sunday school rooms, was not not completed until 1955. A dedication and note burning service was held in 1959. In 1961, four Sunday school rooms were added and in 1985 a fellowship hall with a kitchen area and more Sunday school rooms was completed.
