Public Well Missionary Baptist Church is now 158 years old. It was established in 1852, and had 83 original charter members, three of whom were slaves. At the time of its establishment it was originally called the United Baptist Church at Mount Pleasant. It has endured over the years and has had great influence on the surrounding community. It established a school and a graveyard, along with a public well from which it derives its current name.
“Give a man an open bible, an open mind, and a conscience in good working order, and a man will have a hard time to keep from being a Baptist.” –A.T. Roberson–
